First Annual Symposium on Women's Issues

Preparing for Success in the Global Society

For Sias Women Students and their Mothers

May Homecoming at Sias International University provided the opportunity for Global Interactions to organize a Women's Symposium in conjuction with the Sias Foundation Board of Trustees.  An audience of 1,000 women students and their mothers head keynote speaker Sherry Lium previous vice president of Motorola China, and closing speaker Lian Zi, author of 8 books on women's spirituality, speak about their passion and persistence to live a productive life and contribute to society.  this was the first women's symposium on Sias Campus in their 9 year history.

Over 20 breakout sessions organized by Carol Blanchard, foreign faculty at Sias, included presentations by Dr. Gail Chadwick, Director of the Arizona Prevention Resource Center; Vivienne Williams, retired Banner Health Executive; Ma Jing, International Liaison for the China International Conference Center on Science and Technology; and numerous foreign and Sias faculty who held interactive sessions on topics including relationships, career planning, balancing work and family, spirituality, managing money, and networking.

Due to the success of the first Women's Symposium, it will become an annual event each year for Sias Homecoming.

Keynote Speaker:

Sherry Liu
"Experianceing a Fulfilled and Meaningful Life"
Sherry (Xiao Hong)Liu joined Motorola in 1995 and served as the Vice President of Motorola Inc., Direcotr of Motorola's Law Department in the Greater China Region from 2000 to 2006.  Sherry served as the President of Women's Business Council for Motorola China which focused on women development in the company.  Since leaving Motorola in 2006, Sherry focused her time on painting, poetry writing and helping to build nonprofit organizations in China.

LianZi
"Living, Walking, Love, to Enjoy a Romantic Life"
LianZi is a famous writer from the Western part of China in the Tengeri Desert of Mongolia.  She has written several books, both fictional and autobiographic, in which she recorded her love for the nature and people from Western China.  Her writing represents one of the most beautiful writing in China.  She and her writing are know for its freshness, boldness, beauty, and sharpness.

Gail Chadwick
"Follow Your Heart"
Gail Chadwick is the Director of the Arizona Prevention Resource Center (APRC) at Arizona State Unvirsity where she guided the organization since its inception in 1990.  Prior to becoming the Director of the Center, Ms. Chadwich directed the MESA Network, a collaborative network of mental health provider, law enforcement agency and ARizona's largest school district to develop and implement substance abuse prevention programs and programs targeted for at-risk youth.


Vivienne Williams
"Professionalism"
Vivienne Williams, Ed.D., presently consults with health care systems designing and developing Corporate Universities as a strategy for reducing professional staff turn-over rates.  She worked with Human Resource leadesr of the Northern California Community College District designing strategies for recruiting minority faculty and students to these schools.  Presently, Vivienne teaches Behavioral Health classes for adults enrolled in Western International University and the University fo Phoenix.


Ma Jing
"Family-Work Balance"
Ma Jing is the project executive for the international science and technology exchange programs of China International Conference Center for Science and Technology (CICCST).  She served as the coordinator and program director for over 30 international technique exchange groups and mid/large scale international conferences.  She graduated with an undergraduate degree in Business Management.  Now she is a mother of a 2-year old and working on her Master's Degree.


Jerrie Ueberle
"Balancing Time and Money"
Jerrie Ueberle is Founder and Presidnet of Global Interactions, Inc. and a Board Member and Trustee of Sias International University Foundation Board of Directors.  Throuhg Global Interactions Jerrie works to bring American and Chinese professionals together to share research, best practices, and technologies that will build sustainable partnerships.  Since 1984 she has been to China over 80 times and has brought thousands of Americans to learn from Chinese experts.
